Taxes
Anchorage is a home rule-class city that does their own property assessments. These assessment notices are sent out mid-January each year. Every property owner will receive an assessment notice. For those who wish to appeal their property assessment, the process for doing so will be included on the assessment notice. This assessment is used to determine the amount of your property tax as well as the Anchorage School tax, as applicable.

Tax bills go out in April and are due June 30 of each year. If paid by May 31, a discount will be applied to the face amount of what is due. Those paid after June 30 will have penalties attached.

2019 Anchorage Property Assessments and Appeal Deadline

Anchorage 2019 property assessment notices were mailed to all property owners on January 19th.

The City recently upgraded the tax software used for property taxes.  Assessment notices have a new format, that shows only the current year’s assessment.  Prior year assessments are not listed, but are available by contacting Sara Ritchie at sara.ritchie@cityofanchorage.org. Assessments are sent annually to all residents, regardless of whether the assessment amount changed.

Residents that choose to appeal their assessment may do so in person or in written form.  To appeal in person, please call City Hall at 245-4654 to schedule an appointment.  Be sure to bring all relevant documentation to this meeting.  To submit a written appeal, include all documentation with the request and mail to: City of Anchorage, Attn: Board of Tax Supervisors, P.O. Box 23266, Anchorage, KY 40223.

The deadline to make an appointment or submit your written appeal is Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

Appointments will be scheduled in the order that calls are received with the first appointment starting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.

If you are eligible, you must apply at both Anchorage City Hall and with the Jefferson County Property Valuation. The form and verification of birth or the documentation verifying disability must be submitted as soon as possible to be eligible for current tax bills.
